Weber State University Course Definitions | ||||||||||||
|
Please note that these definitions are in draft form and are under review for approval by the Online Steering Committee. Face-to-FaceFace-to-Face courses have 100% of course time scheduled in a classroom or other physical setting. At the discretion of the individual instructor the course may include technology components delivered through the institution supported course management system, other online applications and interfaces, or classroom-based technology. The bulk of course content is delivered through a standard lecture or classroom format during the scheduled sessions, but students may be required to access support materials online outside of class, as well as be required to submit assignments online and complete assessments online.HybridSome portion of the (traditionally) scheduled classroom time, generally in the range of 30 - 70%, is purposefully replaced with Web delivered components, delivered through the institution supported course management system(s) or other online applications and interfaces. These components must meet the same Standards for Development used for online courses and have a significant impact on learning while they allow for the reduction of classroom time. Students are advised of the scheduling during the registration process so that they know when they are expected to be in the classroom.OnlineOnline courses are characterized by the physical separateness between student and instructor, with no required face-to-face meetings. All content is delivered and taught in the institution supported course management system(s) or other online applications and interfaces. Courses are designed using the institutionally accepted Standards for Development. Students may be required to obtain an approved proctor or go to a campus testing center for purposes of secure assessment. Online courses may, at the discretion of the instructor, include synchronous, (regularly scheduled) online activity. In general, however, most communication and interaction is conducted asynchronously. |
