  Training Components

WSU Online is offering a wide variety of training to meet your needs. Below is a synopsis of the training that is available. Register in Training Tracker for each workshop. Course numbers are listed in ( ).

Users new to WSU Online:

WSU Online "Quick Start" Training (670-01)
This one hour face to face training will teach you basic navigation in WSU Online. This is a perfect class to get your feet wet and see what Vista offers. Teacher and student communication tools in Vista will also be covered.

WSU Online "Quick Start" Online Training
If you would rather learn the basics in navigating WSU Online on your own, we can enroll you in an online course called "Quick Start in Vista." This option allows you to learn and explore Vista when you have the time. Call Jo Ellen Jonsson at ext. 6179 to arrange for this training. (Same content as the face-to-face class above – just online.)

WSU Online Grade Book Training (670-05)
This training is recommended for all faculty teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. You will learn how to use the WSU Online grade book so students will have access to their grades online. We will also cover uploading a syllabus to your WSU Online class.

Users already trained and using Vista:

WSU Online Voice Tools Training (670-03)
Learn how to use the new voice tools in your online or web enhanced class. With Horizon Wimba we can send voice emails, voice discussion board postings and voice chat. These tools are now available in your WSU Online courses! Come and "hear" this amazing technology!

WSU Online Update
Every semester there are a few additions and changes to WSU Online. If you would like one of the Instructional Designers to meet with your department or college we can explain changes and give tips to make teaching in Vista easier. Contact Jo Ellen Jonsson at ext. 6179 to schedule this training.

WSU Online Open Sessions (670-10)
Open sessions are for instructors already trained in WSU Online. You will work one on one with an Instructional Designer to receive answers on specific questions and to assist you on improving your online or web enhanced course.

Training for Certification:

WSU Online Orientation and Teaching in Vista (670-06)
This three hour training is designed for instructors who plan to use WSU Online for teaching online or enhancing a face-to-face course. The curriculum focuses on the instructor role in WSU Online and the features that allow them to manage and enhance the course.

WSU Online Designing in Vista (670-02)
Faculty who want to develop an online course or desire a full knowledge of the WSU Online tools for their enhanced courses will benefit from this workshop. Course-building skills will be learned in creating assignments, assessments, and content components in WSU Online. Instructors will plan and develop the basic structure of their course or template.

WSU Online Online Teacher/Designer Training Orientation (670-12)
This one hour (face to face) orientation is designed for instructors who choose to complete their teacher and/or designer training online. Basic WSU Online navigation will be taught and online materials introduced. Completion of the training will be on the instructors own time.

How much training you need depends on what your needs are. To outline a customized training program for you or your department, please contact your Instructional Designer.

To sign up for classes follow the steps below.

  • Log in to the faculty portal (portal.weber.edu). 
  • Click the training tracker link.  If there is no training tracker link, click Preferences->Quick Links->Check the box next to Training Tracker.
  • Click the pull down menu labeled “select an area” and choose Classes/Schedules. 
  • Click the "Computer Training" link.
  • Click the “Show only scheduled classes” button.
  • Click on the appropriate WSU Online Class
  • Choose the day and time you want and click the “add to my schedule” link.

Once your training is complete, you are eligible to take an assessment for certification. The competencies that will be assessed are outlined below.
